I Am Number Four By: Pittacus Lore

I Am Number Four

By: Pittacus Lore

This novel follows the life and times of John Smith, a 15-year old alien from the planet Lorien, and Henri, his guardian Cêpan, as they run from the Mogadorians, another alien race that is hunting John and eight other teenage Lorics residing on the planet Earth. These nine teens are members of the Garde, a group of Loric people gifted with special powers called "Legacies." These “Legacies” come at different times and are different for every Garde. “Legacies” usually appear during times of high emotional activity. Cêpans, who are also Loric, do not acquire legacies and most often become protectors and mentors for young members of the Garde. The teenagers are protected by a spell or charm that only allows them to be killed in numeric order. The first three have been killed, and John is Number Four.

Cider by Rosie. :)

This is definitely a wow book for me. This book was so full of awesome that the second I finished I tried to convince my friends to read it. This one is futuristic with androids and cyborgs and aliens. Totally not my thing usually. But Cinder is basically a normal girl. She hides that she's a cyborg as much as she can because it seems they are kind of looked down on, like they aren't fully human. But she is. I mean she has a human brain and still thinks like a normal girl. And she was completely real and likeable to me. I connected with her right off the bat and I understood her. She was funny and compassionate but she was also strong, or when she wasn’t she forced herself to be anyway, trying to convince herself that she was less. No one would like her if they knew she was cyborg and other things. The other characters were also great. The prince was defiantly not like a prince. I mean, he wasn't full of himself. He was funny and he was also compassionate and like Cinder he was strong. Though it's completely different because yes, he's a prince, but he's suddenly thrown into this tough position and his decisions mean the fate of his country. But he had a clear head and struggled to do his best in deciding what would be best for his country. But one thing that wasn't a struggle for him was Cinder. They are continuously running into one another and he doesn't even hesitate to be kind and gently flirtatious with Cider. And though he doesn't know she's a cyborg he does know she's not royalty and he still pays her attention. He's not a bad boy, but he's still a little awkward! The stepmother was definitely evil and had me so mad it wasn’t even funny! I honestly wanted to reach in and strangle her, along with one of the stepsisters. The other one was kind and has her own story but I don't want to spoil it for you. The Cinderella part of the story was perfect. It was definitely it's own but still followed along enough that it was pretty obvious that it was a retelling of Cinderella. The sci fi elements were important but somehow the book was never boring. For me it was perfect. I got enough that I wasn't confused but not so much I felt overwhelmed.

ThE LuCkY OnE By nIcHoLaS sPaRkS

The book begins when U.S. Marine Logan Thibault finds a photograph of a young woman half-buried in the dirt during his third tour of duty in Iraq; his first instinct is to leave it aside. Instead, he brings it back to the base for someone to claim as a family photo, but when no one does, he finds himself always carrying the photo in his pocket and wondering about the girl. Soon Logan experiences a sudden streak of luck—winning poker games and even surviving a combat that kills two of his closest friends. Only his best friend, Victor, seems to have an explanation for his good fortune: the photograph is now his lucky charm.
Back home in Colorado, Logan can’t seem to get the photo and the woman in it out of his head. Believing that she somehow holds the key to his future, he sets out on a journey across the country to find her (on foot), never expecting the strong but troubled woman he finds in Hampton, North Carolina; Elizabeth, a single mother with a young son. Confused by the attraction he feels to her, Logan keeps the story of the photo, and his luck, a secret. As he and Elizabeth start an affectionate and active love life, the secret he is keeping will soon threaten to tear them apart.

Kira Kira

By: Cynthia Kadohata

Do you know what Kira Kira means? It means glitter.

Katie is just an ordinary girl with an ordinary life. She has an older sister named Lynn. Lynn and Katie like to be best friends than being sisters. They were always there for each other and love each other. Things were always so happy and peaceful. Until Katie and Lynn’s family moved to Georgia.

Things started to change, Lynn is going to a different school and Katie is starting her first year in kindergarten. New school means new friends for Lynn…. but what about Katie?

New and good expectations are coming their family’s way. Katie’s mom is pregnant with a boy. Well, Katie has been wondering how her parents got the baby. Anyways, the girls were so excited to have a baby brother. So several months later, they finally had the baby. His name was Samuel.

Lynn, Katie, and Samuel were having happy days everyday. Lynn is always making straight A’s in school. Katie is always babysitting Samuel because she loves him. Life has never been good, has it?

A few years later, Lynn has been having tons of fevers and she has to be excused from school a lot of times, which it takes an effect on her grades. She sometimes feels better all the time and sometimes she throws up. Katie and her parents were worried so they took Lynn to the hospital. The results came back and that Lynn had anemia, which means that she doesn’t have a lot iron in her body.

Ever since then, things have been changing. Lynn is changing now, since she discovers that she has anemia. Lynn now is just lying in bed with this illness and it had changed her mood. Katie has never experienced this before.

Is Lynn dying? Or is she trying to fight this pain? To find out:

New Moon By: Stephenie Meyer

On her 18th birthday, Bella Swan wakes up from a dream in which she sees herself as an old woman. She expresses her distaste with growing older than her boyfriend Edward Cullen, a vampirewho stopped aging physically at 17. Despite her lack of enthusiasm, Edward's adoptive family throws Bella a birthday party. While unwrapping a gift, Bella gets a paper cut, causing Edward's brother, Jasper, to become overwhelmed by her blood's scent and attempt to kill her. Realizing the danger that he and his family pose to Bella, Edward ends their relationship, and the Cullens leave Forks Washington.

Edward's departure leaves Bella heartbroken and depressed for months; however, when her father, Charlie, decides to send her to live with her mother in Florida, Bella agrees to spend time with her friends. After seeing a movie with Jessica, Bella sees a group of men on motorcycles. This reminds her of when Edward previously rescued her from an assault, and she sees his image warning her to stay away. Bella discovers that all thrill-seeking activities evoke Edward's preserved image. She is also comforted by her deepening friendship with Jacob Black, a cheerful companion who eases her pain over losing Edward. When Jacob suddenly begins avoiding her, Bella discovers he has become a werewolf, an age-old enemy of vampires. Jacob's pack members are on constant patrol for Victoria a vampire who wants to kill Bella to avenge the death of her mate by Edward's hand, leaving Jacob little time to spend with her. Alone again, Bella returns to seeking thrill-inducing activities.

Through a series of miscommunications, Edward believes Bella has killed herself by jumping off a cliff into the ocean. Distraught over her supposed suicide, Edward travels to Italy to provoke the Voltura. a powerful vampire coven capable of killing him, by exposing himself as a vampire to humans. Alice Edward's sister, and Bella rush to Italy to save Edward, and arrive just in time to stop him. It is then that Edward tells Bella that he always loved her and only left to protect her. However, the Volturi determine that Bella, a human who knows that vampires exist, must either be killed or transformed into a vampire herself. Alice stops them from killing her by sharing her premonition with Aro a Volturi elder who is able to read thoughts through touch, in which Bella has been transformed. Soon after, they return to Forks and Bella forgives Edward for leaving her. The Cullens vote in favor of Bella being transformed into a vampire, much to Edward and Rosalie's dismay. Later on, Jacob reminds Edward of the treaty the Cullens made with the Quileute tribe: they will not attack each other, as long as the Cullens do not bite any humans an action necessary for Bella's transformation. The movie concludes with Edward telling Bella that he will change her into a vampire, but only if she marries him first.
