Free Radical

Free Radical is a fiction book that takes place in Fairbanks, Alaska. Luke is a 15 year old boy who is trying to make the all-star baseball team, since he failed to the past few years. One afternoon while he is watching television with his mother, she tells him that she is a fugitive. In 1970, his mother killed a college student during an anti-Vietnam war protest. She told him that the guilt was tearing her apart and that she had to turn herself in to the police. Luke was not pleased with her decision, but she thought it was time to give up all that she was hiding. Now it is up to him to help out his mother and to find out who he really is.

HEAT

The book Heat is a book full of excitement. This book also could be for two different types of people such as sports lovers and people who enjoy just reading a good book. In this book Michael Arroyo is a pitcher that throws with a lot of speed. Baseball in his life doesn’t even compare with all the other stuff that he has to face in day to day life.

Michael is not your ordinary kid that has fun and plays baseball as just an extracurricular activity. When Michael was young he was in an orphanage after his dad helped escape Cuba. He has a huge problem going on throughout the book he scared because the only family member that he has left is his brother which is 17 and very scared because if the social services find out there on there on together they will be separated and possibly even sent all the way back to Cuba. Later in the book a guy wonders how a kid that is so young can throw as fast as he can but there is no way that Michael can prove his age so his whole story and life was blown up and he soon realized that family can come from almost anywhere just to never give up.

Crackback

I read the book Crack back by John Coy. My book was about a boy in high school about our age and he tried out for his high school football team and made it. This was his first year playing football so he was a little scared but as the year went along he got better and better. By about the 7th game of the season he had an incredible hit against there rivals the bears. Every one though he was the best football player at the school but all he really wants to do is impress his dad and even this hit doesn’t impress him. So threw out the book keeps doing pretty incredible things and all his dad does is say how he could do better and that he’s better. One day Stahl the kid does something crazy and that’s impresses every one and his dad finally realize what son he really has.

Alida's Song

Alida’s Song is a very inspiring novel written by Gary Paulsen. This book his very heart warming it opens your eyes to get you to want to reach out and help others that aren’t doing the best of their ability. Some people just have it incredibly rough as a child and growing up and this wonderful Grandmother takes it out of the kindness of her heart to help this fourteen year old boy. The old grandmother offers Johnny summer chores and responsibilities to help him make it through his terrible crisis. She makes things to where Johnny can have a summer job on the farm. While Johnny is able to work very independently and hard for this lady, he is also getting the special privileges of getting fed and taken care of, he just feels loved with Aldia. While Johnny is working him and Mrs., Alida grow a strong and caring relationship. He begins to realize that things aren’t always going to be tough in life just as long as you have that one special person in your life that always loves and watches over you. He is able to take his life and turn it around and give his perspective on life a brand new meaning.

Alida’s song I feel is made for people that like positive novels. Also for people that sometimes feel like giving up on life when they think everyone has walked away. I chose this book just to have something to read but honestly it was a big eye opener to me. There is always that one person that still cares when you think that the whole world is against you. Sometimes pain hurts when you have no where to turn but your troublesome situations only make you stronger. Pain makes you want to fight more until you’ve reached that point of achievement. That’s what I liked about Johnny he was so young, and yet so strong. Working from dust to dawn for Mrs. Alida just to be able to be nurtured and have his belly full. Those are things that his own mother and father should have been doing but Johnny was neglected. And sweet Alida found it in her heart to welcome him into her home and bless him with the opportunities of working for his privileges and teaching him the hard way that life is rough, but in the end it’s all worth it. Out of five stars I give this novel a three. I wish it would’ve told more about his parents and why they felt they had to put their child through stress, and mistreatment at such a young age. For me Alida’s Song even helped me realize that most people have it worse than I do, and I should be thankful and count my blessings daily.

I Only Said I Didn't Want You Because I Was Terrified

I Only Said I Didn’t Want You Because I Was Terrified by: Celia Banting

This is an awesome book about teen pregnancy. Its about a girl named Hannah who is a goody good because her dad wants his kids to have it better than his family had so he stresses this on his kids. One day Hannah’s friend is in the car with them and asks Hannah’s dad if the two of them could go to a party but she lied and said it was a girl from school, but in reality they were going to go to Hannah’s boyfriend’s house party because his family is away for the weekend. Her dad says yes an they go but on the way there Hannah’s friend gives her some vodka and she drinks it, when they arrive at the party Hannah’s boyfriend gives her more alcohol and Hannah gets drunk and while she’s drunk he takes control of her and they have sex in his room. Then her dad shows up and she’s in major trouble for being at a boy’s house and because she was drunk. He doesn’t know about her having sex at this point. So she gets grounded. Later on Hannah realizes that she’s pregnant and hides it from her parents for nine months. Then one day while her family is shopping she starts having hard core cramps, and realizes that the baby is coming so Hannah gets on the toilet and gives labor to her baby all by herself. She knows she can’t keep the baby so she cleans the baby and her self up and puts the baby in a gym bag and places her on the steps of the nearest church. Later that night when her dad is watching the news there’s a story about someone places their newborn baby on the church steps. He talks all kinds of trash about whoever did that. It makes Hannah feel like she’s worth nothing. Hannah goes up stairs and into the bathroom and swallows all the pills she can. Hannah wakes up in the hospital and her parents find out about the baby. So read the book and find out whether Hannah keeps her baby or not!

I give this book five stars. I would recommend it to teenage girls who are pregnant and are thinking about abortion. I chose this book because my friend recommended it too me and told me it was a terrific book, and it turned out to be really good. Its one of my favorite books.

The Tomorrow Code

The book I have read was called “The Tomorrow Code” by Brian Falkner. before I talk about the book, the author is from New Zealand so the book is set in Auckland, New Zealand OK no Zombies either. The main characters are Tane Williams and Rebecca Richards. Tane’s brother is nicknamed “fatboy” their father is a photographer of native wildlife. Rebecca’s father was a researcher at the collage. when Rebecca’s father died her mom went into a dormant state.

Rebecca and Tane are not boyfriend and girlfriend they just knew each other for a long time. They thought about how would someone would send a message to the past; they found out that they could through gamma ray bursts. Then there was signals from the future just only in Morse Code and cryptic. Deciphering the messages they found lottery numbers and SOS. In the the next message said to stop the Chimera project, and buy a sub with the money. Now they are on a race to save the world from complete destruction.

This book is based on real places but not real events, but still good though. I liked the references to things like “Timeline” and “google.” I am willing to read the author’s next book so I going to give it a 4 out of 5. Not good enough to be a move but still good.

Catching Fire

As the second novel in the Hunger Games series, author Suzanne Collins continues to uphold the same captivating, page-turning excitement that always leaves the reader wanting more in Catching Fire. Anyone who has read the first book of the series, The Hunger Games, can tell you that Suzanne does an excellent job at creating a book that is fit for any reader. For example, main characters Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark have a relationship that satisfies the taste for its romance-loving readers, while the novel also remains full of enough plot-twisting excitement to satisfy readers searching for an action-packed thriller.

While The Hunger Games tells the story of Peeta and Katniss’ fight for survival and love, Catching Fire immediately grabs the reader’s attention by continuing the chronicle of their struggles against the Capitol’s inhumane quest to stay in control with the annual fight to the death they refer to as the hunger games. However, this year there is a new twist to the hunger games that comes as a total shock to readers. The techniques used by the author to hold the interest of all readers compel me to rate this novel 4.5 out of 5 and recommend it to anyone and everyone.

They must face the ever looming endeavor that is continually hovering over their heads and in the back of their minds. Each and every year the oppressed citizens send two sacrifices from each district to the ultimate trial of survival; The Hunger Games. The protagonist of the novel is a character known as Katniss. Katniss is a shy, hard working girl, who was put in charge of her family after her fathers passing in a coal mining accident and her mothers over whelming depression that follows due to the event.

Katniss is faced with a dilemma on reaping day but makes the decision to take her sister Prims place after her name is selected while picking contestants. The second contestant is a boy named Peeta Mellark. Peeta is a large, broad shouldered teenager, who helped Katniss in a very difficult time for her family. Forged by Fire

I read the book Forged by Fire by Sharon M. Draper. I would give this book a 4.5 star rating. This book had a lot of excitement and passion in it. Gerald is the main character in this book. He had a younger sister as well that suffered with abuse by their step father. Gerald hated his step father for many reasons. He always hit them and fussed with them and it just was sad. Gerald was always there for his mom and his sister. Gerald hated his step father for many reasons. In the end there was a very drastic changed that changed Gerald’s and his sister’s life for the good. I really liked this book because I felt like it related with some of the things I like to read in a book.

I chose this book because I read the book Tears of a Tiger and I really liked it; Forged by fire was the second book in the series. I would recommend this book to anyone honestly. I feel that the book is that good, that anyone would enjoy it. I still like Tears of a Tiger better but I also liked Forged by Fire. If you choose this book in the future I hope you enjoy it!

Inheritance

I read book four of the Inheritance Cycle, “Inheritance.” After reading the first three books I loved the series and couldn’t wait to read the fourth. Only a week after it came out I got it and read it in just about a week. This is a great fantasy, action/adventure book. By the time I finally finished the book, after a long 850 pages I can say I never wanted it to end! This is definitely my favorite book and I would recommend it to anyone. This is a five out of five book for sure. If you like mystery and magic and fantasy worlds this is the book for you but I would start with book one or you would be completely lost.

Book Summary

I read the book Spirit Bear. The book is about two boys named Cole and Peter. In the beginning of the book Cole beet up Peter and they both were sent to this island to try and stop fighting and learn how to control there anger. If they decided they didn’t want to go to the island then they would have to go to jail. Well they decided they wanted the island instead of jail. Well since they have been on the island Cole and Peter have became best friends. On the island they would go sit in a freezing cold pond and throw huge rocks off a hill to release any anger they might have. Well after there year on the island they are sent back home to go back to there regular school which is filled with bullies and violence. At the school they go to the Principal or teachers wouldn’t do anything about bullying or violence. Well Cole and Peter were always bullied because they couldn’t fight back because they would be sent to jail if they got into a fight so they always got beat up. But instead of fighting back they would get beat up and try and do things to release there stress like they did on the island.

I chose this book because it looked like it would be a really good book by the way the cover looked. I don’t really like this book because it’s kind of boring but I’m sure other people might like it. I would get this book a rating of two stars.
